IGN PS3 Killzone 2 Preview, Breath-taking. Sharp. Realistic. The bomb.

Breath-taking. Sharp. Realistic. The bomb. You can say it however you like, but after a morning of blasting Helghast at Sony’s pre-E3 event, the fact of the matter is pretty simple: Killzone 2 looks good.psava
Really good.
Like the only other opening we’ve seen for Killzone 2, things started off in the air and poorly when we got our hands on the game’s second level. As Alpha Team and Sev — that’s you, a battle-hardened soldier — make their approach to a budding warzone near the Visari’s capital, the Helgast start shooting down the incoming dropships. One of the squads directly in front of you goes boom, and as the flames engulf the transport, one of the soldiers flies from the fire and crashes into your rig.
Awesome.
Your ship goes down — hard — in an industrial zone that’s been torn apart by this battle and you’re left to go at it on-foot with your men. [IGN]

Pokemon Platinum revealed, set for fall release in Japan

Posted by Nima on May 18th, 2008

Pokéfanatics across the globe have been anxiously tied to their poké-related news sites over the past few weeks, attempting to prognosticate what gemstone/precious metal/color would serve as the title for the next installment in the beloved monster-enslaving series — shortly after CoroCoro magazine dropped word of the upcoming Pokémon Platinum, the Sandshrew-swift Nintendo swooped in to confirm the title, and to reveal a fall release window for the game in Japan.
Following the pattern of pokéreleases thus far, it will serve as a companion to the two current-generation titles, Diamond and Pearl — much like Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald did for their respective generations. That means we’ll likely be treated to new sprites for many the monsters, and a few tweaks to the story, but not many new entries into the ol’ Pokédex. Perhaps that expansion will come in the franchise’s next generation, Pokémon Ununbium and Cadmium. [Joystiq]

Samsung’s 82-inch QuadHD LCD: Now with 120Hz

Posted by Nima on May 18th, 2008

Samsung’s stream of 82-inch monsters packing the company’s latest technology continues unabated, this time a minor update to the QuadHD behemoth we saw at CES brings so-outdated 120Hz motion processing and LED backlighting to keep blur and judder far, far away. We know what you’re thinking, its 3840×2160 resolution is no good unless you can write on it, luckily Samsung also has an 82-inch ultra high definition e-Board in its SID 2008 booth. OLED fans take heart, Samsung has reached economies of scale, hopefully meaning reasonably priced (and longer lasting) thin screens are due sooner instead of later. The Korea Times notes LG’s at the show as well, showcasing LCD roll-printing technology to replace the photolithography process that currently births the flat panels on our walls, but we simply can’t be bothered with a company that’s only the number two LCD manufacturer in the world.
