Swimming Pool and Water Stolen From Yard

Posted by Nima on July 26th, 2007

Daisy Valdivia is annoyed that someone stole her backyard pool — and baffled at how they did it without leaving behind a splash, drip or1_main trace of the 1,000 gallons of water it contained.

Valdivia awoke to find her family’s hip-high, inflatable, 10-foot diameter swimming pool gone from her back yard Wednesday.

Valdivia told The Record of Bergen County the theft must have occurred between 1 a.m., when her husband went to bed, and 5 a.m., when she awoke.

She’s amazed someone could steal the pool that quickly and just wanted to know ”what the heck they did with the water,” she said. [NYTimes]

Crazed NZ fanboy mows down churchgoer

A 58-year-old woman is in an Auckland hospital with “life threatening” injuries after being hit by car as she left the city’s Methodmacfanboyist Mission Church, 3 News reports.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly “deliberately drove” at the church after jumping several red lights at speed, narrowly missing several pedestrians. Witnesses report seeing the car approaching from a distance of half a kilometre on the wrong side of the road before accelerating towards its target.

Jade Andrews said: “He sped up and I quickly shut my door and jumped out of the way because he nearly clipped me.”
The impact with the church - described as sounding like a bomb going off - sprayed the exiting congregation with broken glass. Survivor Rosa Kim recounted: “We heard the sounds of the impact of the crashed glass. I got a sore nose. She [the victim] moaned from the pain.”

The driver was “injured but conscious”, and as police attempted to extricate him from his motor, he “clutched his laptop computer and screamed the name of Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs”. A fireman later told 3 News “he believed the man had a mental illness”. [The Register]

Thief Steals Stolen Porsche

In what could have been a scene from car heist movie Gone In 60 Seconds, a brazen Malaysian Porsche thief has struck 1_mainagain.
After crashing the car worth more than 280,000 dollars out of an auto showroom, then abandoning it when fuel ran out, the thief returned with a can of petrol and stole it again — this time from the police, reports said on Wednesday.

Police in northern Penang state found the Porsche 911 Targa 4 on Monday shortly after a well-dressed thief walked into the showroom with a chequebook, asked to test the engine, and then crashed the car through the showroom’s glass doors, newspapers reported.

Officers found the high-performance car abandoned 1.5 kilometres (one mile) away after it reportedly ran out of fuel.
Police took the car back to their compound but, later Monday, somebody cut the perimeter fence, snuck in, and re-fuelled the car, the New Straits Times reported.
