Teen trades hacked iPhone for new car

Posted by Nima on August 28th, 2007

The teenage hacker who managed to unlock the iPhone so that it can be used with cellular networks other than AT&T will be trading his reworked gadget for a new car.iphone

George Hotz, of Glen Rock, N.J., said he had reached the deal with CertiCell, a Louisville, Ky.-based mobile phone repair company. Hotz posted on his blog that he traded his modified iPhone for “a sweet Nissan 350Z and 3 8GB iPhones.” “This has been a great end to a great summer,” Hotz wrote.

The 17-year-old Hotz said he will be sending the three new iPhones to the three online collaborators who helped him divorce Apple Inc’s popular product from AT&T’s network. The job took 500 hours, or about 8 hours a day since the iPhone’s June 29 launch.

Hotz made the deal with Terry Daidone, co-founder of CertiCell, who also promised the teen a paid consulting job.

“We do not have any plans on the table right now to commercialize Mr. Hotz’ discovery,” Daidone said in a statement.

Obtaining IP on WLM

Posted by Nima on August 1st, 2007

Want an IP address of a friend on WLM? Then here are 8 simple steps you need to do in order to get it. ms-livemsg

1: Goto your Messenger screen, go to the menu, then click on ‘tools’, and select ‘options…’
That’s step one out of the way.

2: Now, we are on the options page, goto ‘Connection’ on the tabs menu.
This basically tells you, if there are any server problems.

3: Now we are at the connections page, I know what you’re thinking, yes this is the
easy part.
Click ‘advanced settings’ and wait for that to load up.

4: We are on the advanced settings page. Now you want to get your msn to send
you IP’s of people.
Click the box that says, ’save a log of my server connections to help troubleshoot connection problems.’ There is the log file, which will store ALL of your msn details smile.gif

5: Now the person who you want the IP of, simply send them either ‘audio’ ‘video’ or send file itself.
Note: Even IF they cancel, you still get there IP.

6: Now we have a log, but where is it?
Ahh, simple answer, goto your ‘My Recieved Files’ folder, and look around.
The file should be called ‘MsnMsgr’ it is a .txt file.

7: Simply look down the log, it grows each message, for the IP of your victim.
I would suggest sending an invite to someone, WITHOUT you being spammed.

8: You now have their IP on log file.

Time to have a bit of random fun. :P

Note: That IS their IP. Also, MicroTechXP is not responsible if you do anything stupid with the IP.

New tool enables loading of unsigned drivers in Vista

Posted by Nima on July 31st, 2007

A new software tool has been released by Linchpin Labs that allows the loading of unsigned and legacy drivers on Windows XP, 2ms_vista003, and most importantly Vista.

One of the system management and control methods that Microsoft implemented with Windows Vista is requiring system drivers to be digitally signed before they will load properly within the system. If a user or administrator wishes to load an unsigned or legacy driver, they will either need to reboot into a limited functionality mode or just do without the functions that the driver would have provided.

As others have pointed out, this step will do nothing to prevent malware authors from being able to load their drivers into the system. Either they will exploit the lax jurisdiction and corporate oversight of various countries to establish a corporate shell and gain legitimate digitally signed driver certification, or they will just exploit weaknesses in already-signed drivers.

Posted by Nima on July 30th, 2007

Want to fix your Vista Performance? Then apply these patches and then your Vista will be as reliable as XP.

Note: These fixes break all current methods of bypassing driver singing requirements except the good old F8 during boot (that you have to ms_vistaflagsmalldo every single time you start vista).
IF you are using Rivatuner, atitool and or Peerguardian on 64bit vista, you will have to use F8 every single time to disable driver signing requirements to use those two programs. x86 version is unaffected.
These updates should go official on the next patch Tuesday (in one weeks time). To download read one.

10 Reasons Why You Won’t Ever Want to Go Back to XP from Vista.

Posted by Nima on July 29th, 2007

ms_windowsvistaicon

Released for businesses in November 2006, and for the general public in January 2007, Windows Vista is but a couple of days away from passing the first six months of availability milestone.

The operating system’s first half a year has been everything but an easy ride, with Microsoft struggling to convince on all the promises it delivered with Vista: security, usability, reliability, increased adoption rate etc. In January 2007, Windows XP became suddenly expired, and was pushed to the background. Vista only has room to grow by eroding the operating system market share currently occupied by XP, so Microsoft started drowning XP in Vista. Additionally, all other references to future releases under the Windows platform were muted under the reign of Steven Sinofsky, Senior Vice President, Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group.

Vista Tweaker 0.2

Posted by Nima on July 29th, 2007

VistaTweaker is a complete and free tweaking utility designed for Windows Vista and Windows XP.

From the Author:software

I know there are tons of free programs for tweaking windows, but i noticed that many of them were a little bit outdated and with ackward interfaces. Also only a few offer guidance on every tweak so many people don’t know what every tweak is supposed to do.

These are the main reasons, among many others, i decided to write my own tweaking program. I called it VistaTweaker because its main goal is to work with the new OS from microsoft and also because it is the OS im running now…

It works on XP and Vista, but there are tweaks that works only on Vista. I will come up with something to let the user know wich ones work on XP.
