More Reasons why PS3’s Blu-Ray wins over the 360’s DVD
Disks, Gadgets, Main, Microsoft, Sony August 3rd, 2007Today, though, id Tech 5 surfaced. Behind closed doors at QuakeCon 2007 in Dallas, id CEO Todd Hollenshead revealed the demo was actually the first look at Rage, an all-new IP. As mentioned at WWDC, the game is in simultaneous development for the PC, Mac, PS3, and 360, a
nd will use the second generation of id’s “Megatexture” technology. The game will be come on a single Blu-ray disc for PS3 owners, while all other versions will require two DVDs.
Speaking to a small collection of game journalists, Hollenshead explained that Rage was a deliberate departure from the corridor shooters that made id famous. Its gameplay will be “60 percent shooting and 40 percent driving” between villages in a postapocalyptic wasteland. Its setting will be a far future which has seen civilization decimated after a comet smashes into the Earth. Players will aid the villages’ inhabitants in fighting both an oppressive regime and various mutants and monsters roaming the wasteland. [Gamespot]

This is bogus. megatexture is bogus. considering after the dashboard is loaded the ps3 is left with roughtly 190megs of texture ram. stop pre-rendering crap and maybe you might get a gaming exprerience where cut scenes are rendered real time with the game engine so you dont get an out of game experience. this is the common flaw of ps2, ps3 gaming. the in game is so much lower quality than the pre-rendered video scenes. killzone2, mgs4, motorstorm, gran turismo all suffer the same fate. all have the overblown lighting and super blurry environment to hide the texture tiling.

Wow. Way to prove you’re a moronic fanboy with no fucking life. You’re pathetic and beyond hope of saving. Where the fuck do you guys come from?
August 4th, 2007 at 6:36 am
lol bruceleroy that was funny real fanboy indeed
August 4th, 2007 at 7:27 am
since when has metal gear solid ever had cutscenes that have different graphics to the gameplay? they are always identical! bs is ur name, i wonder what that stands for? hint……bullshit
August 4th, 2007 at 7:39 am
bs is so dumb he doesnt realise that the ps3s cell is a supercomputer, and the rsx is not dependent at all on “RAM” as pc fans keep saying, that is why ps3 games look like cg ingame, and pc games look like middle gen, this is ps3s superiority over all, this is why ps3 games have proved all wrong
August 4th, 2007 at 8:23 am
I think this game looks great, I’m happy that this is happening and knew it would be happening soon anyways. The Future of gaming requires more memory for better quailty games (graphically) . Its just nice to see a Port that well actually be on one blu-ray on the PS3 and two DVDs on PC and XB360. This fact alone is not debatable and futher proves that future titles need more memory.
August 4th, 2007 at 10:11 am
Oh no! Two discs?! I’ve never HEARD of such a thing! It’s a sign of the END TIMES.
August 4th, 2007 at 11:48 am
really? dumb? listen to yourselfs…who is the fanboy and dumb a$$es. games will always be driven by gpu and its ram. you must be little kids that believes everything $sony pushes to you. cell chip is nothing more than an overhyped fpga type processors… a chip does not make it a supercomputer. kevin ansem, rob, BruceLeroy, learn to read, you are obviousely ps3 fanboys that needs a life and girlfriend.
console games are no different from pc, it will always be driven by gpu and ram on what you see on the screen. all the cpu gives you is the ability to calculate more physics and add more intelligence to the game design.
crysis is the perfect example of why more gpu/ram drives games. crysis port to console would never look as good if that ever happens.
fyi, i do work in the industry…dumb asses…
August 4th, 2007 at 11:55 am
“since when has metal gear solid ever had cutscenes that have different graphics to the gameplay?”
uhmmm…since mgs2 at least on the ps2. that just goes to show you how dumb you guys are if you can’t even tell what is a game cut scene.
also, i guess there is magical space in the ps3 where it holds the data since the rsx is not dependent on the the ram. lol, how dumb are you? what is your iq? 1? go to schools yoo might learn something. lol.
August 4th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
This is just a post from gamespot, you guys don’t need to fight over it.
August 4th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
wow BS is gay. the truth is your just mad if you want the game your gonna have to use 2 disc haha. and the cell is awesome. better phsycs and AI also make a hella better game. so ya ya
August 4th, 2007 at 12:56 pm
WOW…I didn’t think people that exist…Dude get a life…besides who r u to decide what we want to see….we do want to see in game cut scenes just like killzone….
1-every technology maker knows it’s not a good move to use the same technology each generation…((same DVD))cuz we saw that GOD OF WAR 2 took 8.5 GB thats why u should change.
2-Rushing is the dumbest move u ‘ll make cuz the longer u wait the much uu create.
3-PCs will soon be made with built in HDDVD or bluray player but what about 360.
4-If u could stop thinking like Fan Boy u would see that PS3 is like 10 360s….except games & network what does 360 have that PS3 doesn’t???….nothing.
August 4th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
Is the bottle half-empty or half-full? You see Id’s announcement in one way. I see it in another.
As a consumer, what do YOU prefer? Do you prefer to pay an extra $100 (soon to be $200 after the two successive 360 price cuts kick in) for a Blu-ray component, or do you prefer to save the $200 and just get the same game on an extra DVD disc?
I know I’d rather save the money and get multiple DVDs.
August 4th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
niggas relax, 360 owners stop sucking ur own pussy, and suck ps3’s dick, ps3 is the GOD of all consoles u niggas know that to so STFU and live with ur old technology…DVD
August 4th, 2007 at 2:37 pm
@the.round.peg
Dumbass. Who the hell do you know who is getting either console just for that game? They are the same price if you have or are planning on getting both consoles, and even if you only have one of them, they are the same damn price. Anyways, I would rather buy the game on a console that doesent break when I play it.
@bs
Stop copying and pasting shit from xbox fanboy forums. You’re telling these people to get a life? Dont be a hypocrite, and a liar, and say that you have a life or a girlfriend, or a job in the industry because its pretty damn obvious you’re lying out of your ass.
August 4th, 2007 at 4:26 pm
wow so many fanboys.
1st
ps3 is a letdown
2nd
xbox 360 is ONLY better with shading, with its bandwidth and processing
3rd
they are about the same
4th
ps3 online = free + better than live so fuck off xbox
last
ps3 is basically a comp, which is awsome
August 4th, 2007 at 5:46 pm
Oh, so two DVDs = need Blu-ray? I think not.
Two DVD. Big deal!
Blu-ray is not necessary; it’s more like a luxury instead. We had up to 4 CDs in games previously, who says we can’t use the same number of DVDs?
August 4th, 2007 at 6:31 pm
more discs mean higher costs and ruined game play. who ever thought playing a game with a great storyline and then suddenly get a “please load disc 2″ be not a big deal. i agree the xbox360 has some very good looking games out, but so will the ps3, if you deny it then you’re lacking in the eyesight department. furthermore, why pay for two systems when you can invest in one. same thing with dvds, why use two discs when you could use one. its not about being lazy, rather getting the next gen. hardware we’re all paying for.

You gotta love BS artists like “BS”, who spout nonsense without any clue as to how the PS3 works.
here’s a clu captain clueless
CELL + RSX = 1 giant unified rendering system. The only thing the RSX is used for is to create a 1080p raster up to 120 times per second.
stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
August 5th, 2007 at 2:07 am
…just enjoy the games.

I don’t care about the format as long as it’s a great game experience: Puzzles, I’ll load to my P.C. Shooters and action I will play on my Playstation 3 (if available) and 360 ONLY IF it is my only option. I agree 360 looks great and has great games, but developers had over a year, give PS3 devs some time. MS’s system (XBox & 360) and Windows are PoS quality-wise. I went through 3 XBox through its short existence, and my 360 bought last December will run 20-30 minutes tops before locking up playing Gears, Tomb Raider Legend, Dead Rising, PGR3, DoA4, anything!! I don’t mind having more than 1 disk, as Final Fantasy 7 & 8 and Fear Effect for PS1 had multiple disks. I do mind that Microsoft hardware destroy the disks you run on it (Had to go through multiple copies of KOTOR and Halo), which MS customer service conveniently blame the customers for. With 2 disks you double the chance of having to buy a new copy of the game.
August 5th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Ok, I dont mind 2 dishs either, but what the hell!? MS had their chance to stick with an obviously better format. Sony was the only ones who actually tried to move on to a better format, and already with this and PGR4 that wont fit on a single dvd is more than showing signs. Also to BS- KillZone is still in its Pre Pre- Alpha stages, google it for evidence. Sony came really close with KillZone looking like it did in 2005. Also, for games, If developers will start making games on the PS3, then games will turn out better. It is a proven fact that the PS3 can make better games because of the RSX and because of CELL, the only reason why the games turn out crappy on the PS3 is because games are ported from the 360 to the PS3, the only way they can make that work is lowering the game or else the devs will have to redo the whole game, because the 360 is not as nearly as strong as the PS3. Look it up on google for evidence. For exclusives, the PS3 is getting more and more Exclusives all the time, and not only FPS games, the PS3 currently has more games being produced than the 360, and will only LAUNCH on the PS3.
Unreal Tournament 3 will play better on the PS3, look better on the PS3, and also will be launched on the PS3 first, thats enough evidence to prove my above comment, if you dont believe me look it up. Dirt will play better on the PS3, a video Q&A on google will suffice. HAZE will look better, and play better on the PS3, the words came right from the developers, google will help you with that.
Lair, Heavenly Sword, KillZone, Little Big Planet, all the above mentioned games, MGS4, FF13 and vs. 13, MotorStorm, Gran Trismo 5 and HD concept, Folklore, Heavy Rain, RCF:TOD, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Wipe out, White Knight Story, and Hot Shots Golf 5, are all PS3 exclusives, except for UT3, Haze, and Dirt, but they will all be better on the PS3 anyways, and on one disk, so it makes it that much more convenient to my video game time. Also Imfamous is an amazing looking game, and the gameplay is far better looking. And only 3 of those games are FPS, atleast with the PS3 you have variety in games.
As for you saying the CELL is crap, why oh why do you even exist? The cell is the fastest proccessor yet, and i’m not just saying that, its already been proven. I like to back up my arguments and all you have to do is take 5 minutes out of your “oh so hard life” and check on google. You’ll find everything I said has been confirmed, and its been confirmed for quite some time now.
Also for those hating the WII, and the 360, screw you, play all consoles. I’m just backing up the PS3 because BS is full of Bullshit.
Thank you for your time.
